Education Select Committee inquiry concerning the 'Every Child Achieving and Thriving' White Paper
Summary of contents
Our evidence submission welcomed the White Paper’s ambition to raise attainment and reduce educational inequalities, but highlighted evidence that shortages of specialist science teachers and reduced access to practical science are disproportionately affecting disadvantaged schools. Improving access to specialist teaching, practical science experiences and high-quality science education is essential for raising attainment and supporting progression into further study and employment.
We call for curriculum and accountability reforms that support science education, investment in the science workforce, including teachers and technicians, and greater access to subject-specific professional development.
