Royal Society of Chemistry to move to a new home at Cambridge Science Park

The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) has announced plans to relocate from Thomas Graham House to a new home at Cambridge Science Park. 

RSC chief executive, Dr Helen Pain MBE, said: “This move marks an important step in the organisation’s evolution – ensuring that we continue to serve our global community of members, volunteers and partners in ways that reflect modern working patterns, our commitment to sustainability, and our responsibility to steward charitable funds effectively. 

“We are investing in the future of the Royal Society of Chemistry, so this move supports our people, strengthens our operations, and enables us to continue to deliver impact for chemistry and society. We look forward to welcoming you to our new home.” 

Why we are moving 

Thomas Graham House has been central to the RSC’s work for many years and holds a special place in our history. However, the way we work and the needs of our community have changed significantly. 

Our new home will: 

• Better support flexible and hybrid working patterns 
• Provide a more inclusive and accessible environment for colleagues and visitors 
• Enable us to operate more efficiently and sustainably 
• Help ensure the long-term financial sustainability of the organisation 

This decision reflects careful consideration of how we can best deliver our charitable mission, now and in the future.

A commitment to sustainability and responsibility 

As a charity, we have a duty to use our resources wisely. This move supports both our financial and environmental goals. 

The new building will: 

• Meet NABERS certification standards, widely regarded as best-in-class for measuring and verifying the environmental performance of the built environment 
• Reduce our environmental footprint through improved energy efficiency and modern building systems 
• Support our journey towards net zero by embedding sustainable design and operation 
• Offer a future-proof workspace, helping us maximise the impact of our charitable funds   

By aligning our physical workspace with leading standards such as NABERS and our wider sustainability ambitions, we are taking a practical step towards the changes we advocate.

Designed for inclusion and wellbeing 

The new workspace has been designed with inclusivity at its heart, including features that better support neurodiversity and a wide range of working styles. 

This includes: 

• Flexible working spaces for collaboration and quiet focus 
• Environments designed to reduce sensory overload 
• Improved accessibility throughout the building 

We want our workplace to reflect the diversity of our community and enable everyone to do their best work. 

What this means in practice 

We expect to move to our new home in late 2026. Our new address will be 

• Royal Society of Chemistry, 334 Cambridge Science Park. 

We are planning carefully to ensure continuity of service throughout the transition. Members should not experience disruption, and we will provide clear guidance – particularly during the membership renewal period – to ensure everything runs smoothly. 

We will communicate updates through multiple channels, including direct communications, our website and member networks.
