This unique opportunity provides successful applicants with the responsibility of forming the UK delegation at the 4th Commonwealth Chemistry Congress in Agra, India. Here you will join delegates from across the Commonwealth for a packed programme designed specifically with a focus on early career researchers where you can connect, collaborate and share ideas and experiences. You will travel to India, represent the UK and present your research as a flash and poster presentation. They must be undertaking research in the chemical sciences to attend and present their research at the 4th Commonwealth Chemistry Congress. This opportunity is open to PhD students and early career scientists within approximately 10 years of their most recent qualification, excluding any career breaks.
This scholarship is open to PhD students and early career scientists actively undertaking research in the chemical sciences to attend and present their research at the 4th Commonwealth Chemistry Congress.
Eligibility
- You are an active RSC member
- You must be based within the UK
- You are either:
- a PhD student actively undertaking a PhD course in the chemical sciences, or
- a researcher in the chemical sciences (including post docs, technical professionals and research assistants), working in academia within 10 years of leaving full time education (at the time of the application deadline).
Career breaks will be taken into consideration e.g. a period of parental/adoption leave, family commitments, illness, or other exceptional circumstances.
This scheme is only for support to attend the 4th Commonwealth Chemistry Congress. Please refer to our funding page for other activities.
What does this scholarship include?
As a 4th Commonwealth Chemistry RSC Scholar you will receive:
- Registration to attend the 4th Commonwealth Chemistry Congress, which opens the door to a host of opportunities including networking, collaborating, and joining a delegation from across the Commonwealth hearing from prestigious speakers
- A guaranteed spot to present your research as a flash and poster presentation
- Food and accommodation for the duration of the congress
- International and local travel
Our Grants for Carers and Accessibility Grants are also available to support those with caring responsibilities or who need additional assistance to participate in a professional development activity.
Application process
Applicants are asked to provide the following information through the online application portal:
- a covering letter, explaining:
- why you want to participate and the impact and benefit that you foresee to your future development as a chemist by attending 4th Commonwealth Chemistry Congress
- how your current research contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals
- a short curriculum vitae (no more than three pages)
- an abstract of the research that will form the basis for your flash and poster presentation. You should also indicate which scientific theme you wish to be included
- a one-minute video (taken on a mobile phone or other device) where you describe the research you will present during the Congress, submitted as a separate file
All applications will be checked by RSC staff. Applications will not be considered for funding if:
- You do not meet our eligibility criteria;
- Your application is incomplete and does not demonstrate how the Applicant will benefit will benefit from participating in the Congress;
- The application does not make clear the Applicant is working in a research role;
- The application is to attend a different event than the 4th Commonwealth Chemistry Congress.
All remaining applications will be considered for funding. In the event there are more applications than available budget, funding will be allocated based on the research being presented and the benefits to the individual of attending the Congress.
