Chemistry Education Conference bursary
To assist members of the Royal Society of Chemistry and our Teach Chemistry service to attend conferences in the field of chemistry education.

Eligibility
You must be:
- A member of the Royal Society of Chemistry or Teach Chemistry.
- Employed at a school, college or university. PhD students are not eligible to apply.
- Pursuing a career in Chemistry Education.
- Attending a conference or event for which the primary purpose is to develop your chemistry education skills or experience.
- Attending a conference or event primarily concerned with chemistry and/or science or chemistry education.
- Able to provide a summary of your key findings within 6 weeks of the conference. This can be in a format chosen by the applicant, such as a written document, vlog, blog, etc. The report should cover:
- Which conference and sessions were attended
- Any learnings from the attended sessions
- How these learnings will be implemented
- Receiving this bursary for the first time. Chemistry Education Conference bursaries are limited to one per person during their career.
NB: We will not award the bursaries to more than one person at the same institution in a given academic year.
What can I request funding for?
- The maximum amount of funding per applicant is £500 to contribute towards travel, accommodation, registration, subsistence (up to £30 per day) or other costs that may be incurred by you or your employer as a consequence of your attendance. This can include cover teaching and carer costs (both childcare and the care of adult dependents).
- The bursary will be paid in one lump sum on confirmation of the award.
- This bursary can be used in conjunction with other funding.
Assessment process and criteria
Applicants will be asked to provide information on:
- Information on their career in education;
- Information on the activity for which they seek funding;
- How they will benefit from participating in the activity;
- How they will disseminate learnings with the education community;
- Details on how any awarded grant funding will be used;
All applications will be checked by RSC staff. Applications will not be considered for funding if:
- You do not meet our eligibility criteria;
- The date of your activity is not eligible for the round in which you are applying;
- Your application is incomplete;
- Your funding request exceeds £500;
- Your application includes ineligible costs;
- The application does not make clear how the activity will develop your teaching skills and/or education career;
- The application does not make clear what the funds requested will be used for.
All remaining applications will be considered for funding.
Application timelines
The conference or event you are applying for funding for should take place within 12 months of the application deadline.
Our current termly deadlines are:
- 23 February 2026: for activities on or after 13 April 2026
- 3 July 2026: for activities on or after 1 September 2026
- 2 November 2026: for activities on or after 1 January 2027
Applicants will be informed of the outcome within 4 weeks.
