The Royal Society of Chemistry journals Nanoscale Horizons and Nanoscale Advances invites you to attend this webinar to celebrate the winners of the Nanoscale Horizons Outstanding Paper Award and the Nanoscale Advances Paper Prize Award.

During this 60-minute webinar, authors from the winning papers will present their research. Each talk will be followed by a discussion and Q&A.

Guest speaker - Nanoscale Horizons Outstanding Paper Award:

Dong Chan Kim, Gachon University, Republic of Korea

Talk title: Flexible optoelectronic devices for multifunctional robotic e-skin

Talk abstract: In this talk, I will present our recent efforts to develop flexible optoelectronic devices for multifunctional robotic e-skin, focusing on quantum-dot light-emitting diodes (QLEDs), perovskite photodetector-based optical sensor arrays, and pressure sensor arrays. By combining spatially resolved optical and tactile sensing, these technologies provide building blocks for multimodal perception and interactive robotic interfaces. I will discuss device design, material and array integration, and key challenges toward scalable and highly integrated robotic e-skin systems.

Speaker biography: Dong Chan Kim received his B.S. in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) in 2014 and his Ph.D. in Chemical and Biological Engineering from Seoul National University in 2021. From 2021 to 2023, he worked as a principal researcher at Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology (SAIT). Since 2023, he has been an assistant professor in the Department of Chemical, Biological, and Battery Engineering at Gachon University. Since 2024, he has also served as an adjunct professor in the Department of Semiconductor Engineering at the same university. His current research focuses on the development of soft optoelectronic devices for next-generation displays and sensing platforms.

Guest Speaker - Nanoscale Advances Paper Prize Award:

Ritu Ladhi, Institute of Nano Science and Technology, India

Talk title: From Achiral Linkers to Chiral Nanohelical MOFs: A New Platform for Enantioselective Sensing

Talk abstract: Can an achiral building block give rise to a chiral porous material capable of recognizing molecular handedness? In this talk, I will present a cobalt-based MOF that forms chiral nanochannels through spontaneous asymmetric crystallization, despite being constructed from an achiral linker. This unique chiral framework enables the enantioselective recognition of amino alcohols, showing distinct "turn-off" and "turn-off-on" fluorescence responses with excellent enantioselectivity. This work provides new insights into the design of chiral MOFs from achiral components for enantioselective molecular recognition.

Speaker Biography: Dr. Ritu Ladhi obtained her Bachelor's and Master’s degrees in Chemistry with first-class honors from Panjab University, Chandigarh, in 2016 and 2018, respectively. She recently completed her Ph.D. from the Institute of Nano Science and Technology (INST), and Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Mohali, under the supervision of Dr. Monika Singh. Her doctoral research was focused on designing and engineering various structural architures of Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) including 3D/2D and Chiral MOFs for the sensing of environmental pollutants and visible-light assited organic conversions. Her broader scientific interests include porous functional materials design, fluorometric sensing and photocatalytic applications.
