Chemistry at Home Video Competition

Chemistry at home video competition   The RSC Central Yorkshire Local Section, in collaboration with CCUK and SCS, invites schools in the Central Yorkshire section to take part in a creative video competition for students aged 11–14. Students are asked to produce a short video explaining the "Chemistry in Your Bathroom". They may choose to explore how something is made, how it works or how it is used. The focus should be on clear, accurate chemistry, presented in an engaging and creative way. Example topics could include: Why do many athletes choose antiperspirants instead of deodorants? Do pimple patches work to treat acne? Should hand sanitiser replace soap and water? How does suncream protect our skin? Videos will be judged on: Scientific accuracy Relevance to the theme Creativity Who can enter Students aged 11–14, in Years 7–9 Teams of 1–4 students Schools within the Central Yorkshire Local Section geographical area Each school may have multiple teams taking part, but only one entry per school can be submitted for judging Videos must be no longer than 120 seconds and must not include students’ faces or any identifying features. All participating students will receive a certificate. The winning school will be invited to collaborate with a local scientist, either through a careers talk or a visit to their workplace to find out more about their role. Submissions will open on 19th October 2026 and close on 15th November 2026. Submission details will be shared nearer the time.
